i crossed the line
bags are packed
huddled by my feet
make up is ruined
tears descending down my cheeks
trying to wipe them off
words reaching for my hurt
so i can leave it here
with you
time is up
only a few more words
the last for who knows how long
i am gone
i am gone
i am gone
i crossed the line
bags unpacked
clothes lying everywhere
same chaos in my mind
suffocating thoughts in there
possibly damaging
my sanity too
i think i’ll break it up with you
time is up
only a few more words
the last for who knows how long
i am gone
i am gone
i am gone
i crossed the line
a few years later
we meet again
i’m dressed in white
walking down the flowered aisle
carrying my heart
in my bare hands
this is my gift to you
i crossed the line
//
maybe i’ll give you a little bit of backstory about myself
i mentioned i’m from east africa
how many of you guys know east africa?
ok how many of you guys know burundi?
that’s not fair you cheated
ok so i’m from a small country called burundi which is in east africa
we speak a beautiful language called kirundi
but i was born and raised in germany, not far from here
i’m not a berliner, but i was born and raised in braunschweig
so privilege is about my experience as a black african girl
in a germany that was a lot of times very confusing to me
and a burundi that was a lot of times and for many years of my life
so very far from me
and this is about what that felt like
